JANET GROENE'S GALLEY RECIPE OF THE MONTH
ROLLER FURLED DATE SPIRALS
It’s easy to turn out a shipload of these wholesome, addictive sweets. All you need is a nonstick skillet and one burner. Assemble them ahead of time to cook on demand and serve for dessert or at bedtime.
1 box or bag of pitted whole dates
6-inch flour tortillas
1 jar of Old English cheese spread
Stuff each date with a whole pecan.“Butter” each tortilla with a stripe of cheese spread across the middle. Lay 3 stuffed dates across the center of the tortilla. Roll up and place seam side down on a lightly sprayed skillet. Cook over medium-low heat until golden on the bottom. Using tongs, carefully turn over spirals and brown the other side. Serve warm or at “room” temperature
