SOUTHWEST FLORIDA YACHTS continues celebration of 30th Anniversary at new location with continued yacht charter incentive
Seeking Additional Power and Sailboats for Charter Fleet
Cape Coral, Florida – (September 19, 2013) – Southwest Florida Yachts, one of Florida’s premier charter firms, has entered the final months of its 30th year of continuous service at a new location that’s especially mariner friendly, continuing its “free cruising days” charter promotion and a commitment to growing its charter fleet. The new location is Tarpon Point Marina, near Mile Marker 92 and the Caloosahatchee River here.
Their story appeared in our August update as the move was about to take place. (Check our August archives to see the great aerial photo of the new location.) Now Barb & Vic Hansen and their businesses are happily ensconced at Tarpon Point to finish out their 30th anniversary achievement. The new base allows consolidation of their power and sail fleets, school and brokerage at a single, first-rate location with great amenities
The new location is also home to the Westin Cape Coral Hotel with first-rate lodging, diverse shopping, casual and fine dining, tennis and a fitness and aquatic center. The seaside community also offers single-family, detached residences within Tarpon Estates and condominium homes at Tarpon Landings. The new marina features a dedicated facility for Hansens' companies, a ship’s store, boat and fishing charters, eco-guided tours and boat/kayak rentals. It is located in a sheltered, deep-water harbor and is safe from storms, as well as offering easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Barbara Hansen said the “Free Cruising Days” promotion will continue through 2014. It applies to charter customers booking cruises three-days or longer between December 15 and April 30 and earns one free cruising day. Three-day or longer charters during the rest of the year will earn two, free cruising days. The promotion has been in place continuously since 2012.
Hansen and her husband, Vic, began the firm in 1984. The current charter fleet includes 10 power yachts from 32- to 50-feet and sailing fleet of five yachts. “We offer scenic and protected Gulf cruising around Pine Island and along Sanibel-Captiva, other Gulf of Mexico barrier islands and beautiful Charlotte Harbor – many consider the area to be among the best for cruising and sailing in the world,” she said. Visitors to the area barrier islands are taken with their ambiance, beaches, friendliness, restaurants and scenery.

A recent edition of the Nassau Guardian has announced that The Sampson Cay Club has been closed permanently by the owner, John Malone, after an earlier closure for renovations. Transients will no longer be accommodated as it is said to be a “private club atmosphere” only for those invited by Mr. Malone. Its availability as a pleasant and convenient stopping place (with fuel) will be missed by cruising people.
Among those expressing disappointment in that closure is Peter Maury (Atlantis HM). On the bright side, however, Maury, President of the Marina Operators of The Bahamas (MOB) association, has announced that the group is in the process of producing their own web site. Watch for news of that here and in the Boating Press.
