NOTICE TO NAVIGATION INTERESTS, 8 AUGUST 2011

Early Notification: Temporary Lock Closures Okeechobee Waterway, Florida

Moore Haven Lock is scheduled to close 19 September and re-open 14 November, 2011. More information regarding this issue and others may be obtained by accessing the Jacksonville District site : www.saj.usace.army.mil.  Choose Operations Division and select Notice to Navigation from the pull down menu. Point of contact is the South Florida Operations Office at 863-983-8101.

A reminder from Capt. John Yeager: If you're new in the area, be sure to check out the OWW before you start your trip! Any individual lock closure means a complete coast to coast transit is not possible!

REPEATING IN SEPTEMBER: NOTICE TO NAVIGATION INTERESTS, 23 May, 2011 / OKEECHOBEE WATERWAY

Due to declines in water surface stages in Lake Okeechobee Waterway (OWW),  mariners are strongly advised that lock restrictions should be taken into consideration whether transiting the Lake or stopping for recreational activities such as fishing. Click HERE for complete notice and latest advisories.

The Notice to Navigation Interests of June 24 explains that most of the south Florida region is experiencing low water conditions and advises mariners that if crossing the Lake they are doing so at their own risk. The warning adds that they should not leave the Route 1 channel and should avoid uncharted waters. Depths could change without notice.

Earlier June NEWS RELEASE:

USACOE, Jacksonville District, has closed St. Lucie South Campground boat ramp due to low water levels. Mariners are strongly advised to monitor lake levels and vessel draft for both Route 1 and Route 2.
