News, Changes and Corrections for CHARTS in print edition:

HALLANDALE HAS GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW MARINA

The City of Hallandale has begun construction for their new public marina. Thirty slips are planned and there will be storage plus a parking facility for large vehicles and boats.

Correction: West Marine address for Sarasota store is 4708 SOUTH Trail (North Trail appears in Classified ...)

TWO MORE NEW-TO-US WATERFRONT RESTAURANTS IN NORTH FLORIDA
One in the East on the St. Johns; the other to the West in Carrabelle ...

The Outback on the St. Johns is not the usual Aussie Outback steak place that may first come to mind, although their brochure describes World Famous Food & Spirits at the Outback Crab Shack at Six Mile Marina in the very far west side of St. Augustine. (They say it's about a 15 minute drive...)

The menu is interesting with hush puppies, sweet potato fries and fried pickles listed with Starters; there are salads From the Garden and entrees From the Grill and From the Fryer include beef, chicken and pork; the seafood dishes include crab plus fresh catch, scallops, alligator, catfish, oysters, clams and more...

Established in 1973, the Outback Crab Shack seems to be a casual, fun place to eat tasty dishes. Lots of deep dockage at Route 13 in Palmo Cove off the St. Johns between markers 22 & 24, south of the Mile 50.2 45' fixed bridge out of Green Cove Springs.

They'll be on our chart #2 next time. Visit www.OutbackCrabShack.com or phone 904-522-0500.

And over in beautiful Carrabelle on Timber Island, there's the new family-owned-and-run Fish Camp Restaurant & Lounge. Stetson Adams is the GM. (Used-to-be Pirate's Landing on the West side of the Carrabelle River...) They don't open 'til 6 AM, so don't come too early; 10 PM is their usual closing time.

You can bring in your own cleaned catch, they'll cook it and serve it to you and your guests along with hushpuppies, fries and coleslaw for only $9.99!

If you didn't have any luck with the catch, here's an idea of what they'll already  have in store for you ... Starts: shrimp, oysters and more; Light Starts include salads and there are Chowders (House-Made with Crabs and Oysters). There's a great big menu list which even has chicken and steaks and a special kids' menu.

The address is 275 Timber Island Rd., phone 850-720-1029. You might jot that down on Chart 22, as we will do in next edition.

Grand Opening is scheduled for Thursday, June 9 through Sunday, June 12 at 11241 US 1 in North Palm Beach.

If you'll be cruising around the Palm Beaches you'll probably want to jot that new address in the Palm Beach County Classified Listings. We're guessing the phone number from the "old" store will probably work for the new one.

NEW POWERBOAT RENTALS IN DESTIN

Legendary Marine has launched MidBay Powerboat Rentals at their HQ at the foot of the Mid-Bay bridge in Destin. We think it's nice for FCD users to know where to find rentals when they're traveling in new territory without "the boat." The phone number there is 850-337-8200 or go to www.midbaypowerboatrentals.com. If you live in or frequent the area you may want to jot it down with Charters & Rentals / Northwest on page 140 in the print edition.

BAHAMAS BOATING FLINGS & Other News

SUM TOY the Gulfstar Trawler that's home to our editors Capt. Bob and Ginny Tower, is cruising the Abacos. So far, they've reported a "great" crossing, a "no problems" clearance at Walker's and anchoring in  "... Wells Bay, a nice cove with beautiful beach ..." where they found lots of sea urchin shells when walking the beach. Then on to Grand Cay.

We're repeating this announcement from last update:

The annual, very popular Summertime Boating Flings begin June 1. Check the schedule on page 15 in the new FCD or contact 1-800-BAHAMAS. Besides information on the Flings, they'll be happy to send you a copy of their recently published The Islands of The Bahamas Boating & Fishing Guide 2010/2011. All you have to do is ask!
